Cabbage is such an adaptable vegetable and often forgotten about when it comes to using your air fryer. Try these tips for easy air-fried cabbage:

First, because it has a tougher texture than lettuce, it can be air-fried without ending up limp and soggy. Shredding the leaves allows it to cook faster and more evenly.

Second, pre-heat your air fryer before adding the cabbage.

Third, cabbage has a high water content. Therefore don’t salt your cabbage until toward the end of cooking (salt draws out moisture). Also don’t overcrowd or make too thick of a layer in the air fryer. You want it to get a bit fried or sauteed on the edges and not steamed.

You will want to toss or mix your cabbage part way through air frying for even cooking.

How to Air Fry Cabbage

Step-by-step instructions for perfect cabbage:

Preheat: Preheat air fryer to 400°F.

Prep the cabbage: Clean the cabbage head, then slice it in half from the crown to the stem. Now slice narrow wedges from the outer edges that are about 1/4 inch thick.

Toss shredded cabbage with oil and seasonings. Place in an even layer in the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your basket you may need to air fry in two batches.

How Long to Cook Cabbage in Air Fryer

Not sure how long to fry cabbage? As a rule of thumb start with 5 minutes and then adjust. I say this because it depends on how thick of a layer of shredded cabbage you start with.

I air fry cabbage for 6-8 minutes. Toss the basket at 3 minutes for even cooking and continue cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes. Adjust seasoning to taste.

The air fryer is a quick and easy way to make almost any vegetable. Here are some vegetables to try: sweet potatoes, onions, cauliflower, asparagus, broccoli, and even carrots.

Ingredients 

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cabbage, medium sized sliced into ½-inch ribbons
  • ½ tablespoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ tablespoon pepper adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F. Place the cabbage in a bowl and drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and toss with your hands or tongs to coat.
  • Place in an even layer in the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your basket you may need to air fry in two batches.
