Spicy Red Cabbage Slaw

As side or a topping Spicy Red Cabbage is as flavorful as it is colorful. I love it on a bbq pork sandwich to cut a sweet bbq sauce.
Course: Salad
Cuisine: American
Servings: 8 servings
Author: Mary Younkin

Ingredients

  • ½ large head of red cabbage thinly sliced into shreds, about 8 cups worth
  • ½ medium red onion sliced into thin strips, about ¾ cup worth
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cholula hot sauce adjust to taste
  • ½ tablespoon sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Combine the cabbage and onion in a large bowl.
  • Whisk together the vinegar, oil, hot sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper. Pour over the cabbage mixture.
  • Toss well to combine. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

This may be served immediately. However, the flavors will meld together and be even better after a couple of hours in the fridge. This will keep nicely for a couple of days.
