Savory Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Savory mashed sweet potatoes are a quick side dish for any meal. Not sweetened with brown sugar or maple syrup, savory is where it is at!

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt for boiling
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and stir to dissolve. Boil for 10-15 minutes, until you are able to easily pierce with a fork. Take care not to overcook.
  • Drain potatoes and return them to the pot. Place the pot back on the stove over very low heat. Add the butter and cream to the potatoes. Use a potato masher or hand mixer to mash the potatoes and incorporate the butter and cream into the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper and stir to mix well. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Serve warm.
