How to Steam Zucchini

One of the fastest and easiest ways to cook zucchini is to steam it. Learn how to steam zucchini with these simple instructions.

Ingredients 

  • 4 zucchini, medium sized cut into ⅓-inch rounds
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground pepper adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Bring two inches of water to boil in a pot.
  • Place the zucchini in a steamer basket and put the basket into the pot of boiling water. Cover the pot, and lower the heat to medium. Steam for 4-5 minutes.
  • Remove them from the heat when the zucchini is bright green and still slightly firm. Season with salt and pepper.

Notes

I've tested how to steam zucchini, by cutting it a few different ways. Thin rounds are by far my favorite for the best texture. Watch closely to avoid overcooking them. Thicker pieces or chunks tend to become softer than I like by the time they are cooked through.
